It’s the time of year that we come together to dance down war on drugs. On the weekend of Halloween or Dios de las Muertes, you’re invited to the fourth annual fundraiser party for Unharm: UNDEAD. This year's theme is StripSearch!
UNDEAD StripSearch is a satirical reclamation of one of the biggest threats to civil liberties today. Recent research from UNSW shows a huge increase in strip searching by NSW Police in recent years, the vast majority done during drug detection dog operations.
Sydney was once known for its pleasurable, progressive lifestyle. The rise in heavy policing of stupid laws has left us frightened, demoralised and culturally impoverished. UNDEAD reclaims public space for shared celebration, dancing and fun.
Not just a great time, UNDEAD helps support the work of Unharm, like campaigning for pill testing services, preventing mandatory drug testing for welfare recipients, and shifting narratives that stigmatise people who use drugs.
Dress up spooky, and come on down!
Saturday November 2, 9pm-4am
Red Rattler Theatre, Marrickville
Shows: Kelly Lovemonster & Betty Grumble
DJs: Farmers Daughters, Ben Drayton, Kate Doherty
The dancefloor is our sanctuary: a place for shared pleasure and care. Come connect, dance, love. Come be UNDEAD.
This party takes place on Gadigal land. We acknowledge the traditional owners, and walk together in the movement for a Makarrata and a Treaty with all the sovereign peoples of this nation.
